Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) is a not-for-profit human development organisation which is registered as a Trust under the Zimbabwe Deeds Registries Act (Chapter 20:05). ZHI’s mission is to develop and deliver innovative and sustainable high impact integrated health interventions with local communities while working with and strengthening existing institutions.

The Re-Ignite, Innovate, Sustain Evidence Based Interventions for HIV Prevention (RISE) program will prevent new HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) using the Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-Free, Mentored and Safe (RISE) approach.

The Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-Free, Mentored and Safe (DREAMS) program focuses on prevention of new HIV infections among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in Zimbabwe. DREAMS core package of services combines evidence-based approaches that go beyond the health sector, addressing the structural drivers that directly and indirectly increase AGYWs’ HIV risk, including poverty, gender inequality, sexual violence, and a lack of education. The program is being implemented in high HIV burden districts in Bulawayo, Gweru and Mazowe and 6 districts in Mat South (Beitbridge, Bulilima, Gwanda, Insiza, Mangwe and Matobo).


Basic Function

The Assistant Project Officer (APO) Services and Linkages reports to the District Project Coordinator (DPC) and will assist the DPC in coordinating the provision of the comprehensive DREAMS core package of services to targeted adolescent girls, boys, and young women.


Job Description

Assist in developing the district specific Services and Linkage Implementation Plan, weekly, monthly and quarterly community based service delivery schedules; Collaborate with DREAMS Ambassadors and establish functional Services and Referral Network (SRN) at community level; Coordinate the timely delivery of evidence and need-based DREAMS Core Services package in line with the set policies, protocols; Work closely with the SIE Team to obtain reports that inform, and guide identification of services required by beneficiaries in a particular location; Collaborate with beneficiaries, their circle of care and service providers to identify and unlock service access challenges; In collaboration with District Program Coordinator, organize regular delivery of community-based and integrated services (clinical, social protection and other services required by girls and young women) in collaboration with beneficiaries and DREAMS Ambassadors; Identify and collaborate with others to provide timely, evidence-based and comprehensive post violence care to girls and young women who require such services; Creates partnerships and builds synergies with strategic service providers including Ministry of Health and Child Care, private providers and local authorities to make reproductive and prevention services available to targeted groups at community and health facility level: Identify and sign Service Delivery Commitment (SDCs) with strategic partners; Maintain records and statistics as required, ensuring accurate statistics are supplied within required periods; Assist in the induction, integration, and assessment of DREAMS Ambassadors; Assist in training of Club Facilitators in basic Counselling, L.I.V.E.S and first line response mechanisms; Complies with all health and safety procedures to ensure their own safety and the safety of others in the workplace and active participation in maintaining a safe working environment for service provision.


Knowledge, Skills and abilities

Excellent communication skills; Ability to work collaboratively and lead in a fast-changing and flexible environment; Ability to prioritize activities and tasks effectively; Demonstrable ability to operate at prime customer contact level; Experience with cross-functional working; Proven track record in the delivery of high quality customer service; Demonstrated teamwork and networking abilities; Computer literacy; Proficiency in local languages a distinct added advantage.


Qualifications and experience

Degree in Social Work or Health promotion; Community development qualifications an added advantage; At least a years’ experience of supporting vulnerable AGYW especially counseling children’s survivors of violence; Certified USAID LIVES Training an added distinct advantage; Certified Cognitive Behavior Therapy training an added advantage; Experience working with adolescent girls and young women as a service provider of PrEP, reproductive health and counseling for post violence care services.
