Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) is a not-for-profit human development organisation which is registered as a Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO 17/22). ZHI’s mission is to develop and deliver innovative and sustainable high-impact, integrated health interventions to the communities we serve, while working with and strengthening existing institutions.
The Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe women (DREAMS)-Reignite Innovate Sustain and Empower (RISE) Program aims to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC), OVC caregivers and Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in Zimbabwe. The DREAMS-RISE program is being implemented in priority high HIV burden districts in Zimbabwe. ZHI’s primary role is to deliver a comprehensive curriculum on HIV prevention, gender norms and social asset building targeted at AGYW in school, out of school and their sexual partners at community level. ZHI’s core thrust in the DREAMS-RISE Program is to keep girls and young women HIV Free through supporting them to; Stay in school; Prevent early pregnancies; Prevent sexual violence; Access Post violence care; Reduce child marriage. DREAMS-RISE program provides a comprehensive, multi-sectoral package of core interventions to address key factors that make girls and young women particularly vulnerable to HIV. These include structural factors, such as gender-based violence, exclusion from economic opportunities, and a lack of access to secondary school. DREAMS-RISE program layers multiple interventions at once so that AGYW are surrounded with critical support to keep them safe from HIV and other risks.


Basic Function

Working under the supervision of the Finance Officer, the Finance Assistant primary role is to support the Finance department with financial services ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency in offering an effective clerical support in service delivery.


Job Description

Work closely with the Finance Officer to ensure smooth operation of all financial matters; Assist in proper control of the supporting documents for payments and financial reports; Assist in filing of supporting documents/invoices linked to expenditure; Assist in accurately and timely key-entering accounting data into the accounting system; Maintain custody of cash box during working hours; Perform regular cash counts; Ensure that all petty cash transactions are adequately supported and approved; Develop and maintain an updated and easily accessible hard copy and electronic finance office filing system; Assist with payment processing, VAT Claims, end of year preparation and audit preparation; Provide technical assistance and capacity building to staff, including interpretation of policies, setting up of systems, trouble shooting and resolution of outstanding issues; Work together with the finance team in planning and carrying out trainings on ZHI policies and procedures; Conduct other general administrative functions as may be requested.


Knowledge, Skills and abilities

Proven proactive skills in identifying cost savings, cost avoidance and efficiency opportunities; Ability to develop effective work plan and priorities in order to meet business objectives; Demonstrated expertise in building effective relationship with key internal customers and other stakeholders; Demonstrated knowledge in pricing, contracts negotiations, conflict resolutions, policies and procedures; Good analytical, numerical and mature problem-solving skills; Ability to adapt easily to changing needs and patterns of work; Excellent report writing and documentation skills; Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Demonstrated experience in working with Accounting Packages such as Pastel, Quick Books or any other Accounting Software; Ability to manage and work under pressure with minimal supervision; Good team player, positive attitude, flexible mind, comfortable in working in a multicultural setting; Strong sense of ethics, integrity, credibility, and respect for diversity; Ability to communicate effectively with staff and management with diplomacy and firmness; Ability to travel a minimum of 25%.


Qualifications and experience

Bachelor of Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent, minimum of 1 year post qualification relevant experience; Recently Graduate of ACCA, CIMA, ICSA, SAA, IAC, or any other relevant professional qualification with 1 year post qualification will be an added advantage; Familiarity with U.S. Government grants or other donor funded programs, contracting and auditing standards as they apply to effective management of multi-year funds will be an added advantage.
