Basic Function
The Locum OI/ART Nurse is a registered nurse seconded to OI/ART departments within selected high volume health care facilities. S/he will be assigned to work at a heath facility under the guidance and supervision of the Sister-in-Charge as well as technical supervision of the District HIV Care and Treatment Coordinator.
Job Description
The main responsibilities for the Locum OI/ART nurse are to scale up HIV viral load testing services, cervical cancer screening and TB Preventive Therapy (TPT) initiation among eligible clients at the health facility and through outreach. The Locum OI/ART Nurse will provide quality HIV care and treatment services, including enhanced adherence counselling to clients as per protocol. S/he will also support targeted HIV testing services and initiate HIV positive clients on ART. Key Performance Areas: Work with lay-counsellors and community-based health workers to mobilise clients within facilities and the community for HIV viral load testing, TPT and cervical cancer screening; Develop a line list of clients eligible for HIV viral load testing.
Pre-book clients for HIV viral load testing according to the Clinic Line List; Perform HIV viral load DBS sample collection from eligible clients at the clinic and through outreach; Screen all HIV positive clients for TB and STIs and make appropriate referrals; Initiate TPT among all eligible clients attending the clinic daily and during outreach; Refer all patients eligible for VIAC attending the clinic daily; Ensure submission of all collected samples to the laboratory for processing; Ensure documentation of all services provided and HIV viral load results received in the relevant M&E tools; Record and maintain filing system for all client records as per MOHCC procedures; Provide enhanced adherence counselling to all clients with unsuppressed (high) viral load as per National guidelines; Provide support for targeted Provider Initiated Testing and Counselling and linkage to care as per national guidelines; Support identification of clients who are defaulting HIV treatment for tracking and tracing; Prepare monthly report on services rendered for submission to supervisor.
Work towards meeting the programme set targets for the site which are reviewed on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
Knowledge, Skills and abilities
Proficiency in English and relevant local language; Knowledge of community health practices and general medical ethics; Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team; Ability to analyze and report relevant activities; Sound knowledge of HIV care and treatment practices in Zimbabwe; Training and experience in HIV counselling and testing for adults, adolescents and children; Knowledge of national HIV/AIDS, STI and TB treatment guidelines; Familiar with M&E tools for OI/ART management; Results oriented and able to meet project deliverables; Computer literacy is a must
Qualifications and experience
Diploma/Degree or relevant Nursing qualification, RGN or PCN; Registrated with the Nurses’ Council of Zimbabwe; Knowledge of National AIDS and TB guidelines; Training and experience in HIV testing services for adults, adolescents, and children; Experience in DBS sample collection preferred; Familiar with M&E tools for OI/ART management.
