Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) is a not-for-profit human development organisation which is registered as a Trust under the Zimbabwe Deeds Registries Act (Chapter 20:05). ZHI’s mission is to develop and deliver innovative and sustainable high impact integrated health interventions with local communities while working with and strengthening existing institutions. Zimbabwe Heath Interventions (ZHI) is seeking applications for a Technical Officer - Gender and Sexual Violence for an anticipated USAID/PEPFAR supported five-year DREAMS project in Zimbabwe. The focus of the project will be to Prevent new HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) using the Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-Free, Mentored and Safe (DREAMS) approach. Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project


Basic Function

The Technical Officer - Gender and Sexual Violence is a gender equality and social inclusion specialist who will provide technical guidance on Gender and Sexual Violence to the DREAMS Program to as part of scaling up efforts to address socio-cultural, religious and legal barriers that increase vulnerability of HIV and impede access to services for adolescents and youth in Zimbabwe. The Technical Officer will guide and implement Gender and Sexual Violence interventions as well as design strategies and mobilize the community to respond to emerging gender issues affecting Adolescent Girls and Young Women AGYW and Adolescent Boys and Young Men (ABYM). The Technical Officer will promote, organize, manage, and coordinate Gender and Sexual Violence interventions. She/he will contribute to efforts targeted at preventing and managing sexual violence, reviewing, reinforcement, improvement, and expansion of the Gender Based Violence Referral System. The Technical Officer will lead the design, management and implementation of the community norms change interventions that entails mobilizing communities, community leadership, gatekeepers, boys, and men.


Job Description

The Technical Officer - Gender and Sexual Violence is responsible for daily project management and implementation, and ensure compliance with project donor agreements and project proposals, particularly expected results, outputs and activities in accordance with work plan, targets and timeframes and notify the supervisor immediately as issues arise; Support the collection and analysis of sex- and age- disaggregated data (quantitative, qualitative and anecdotal) as well as streamlining the needs assessment, collection and analysis so that it can be more effective in meeting beneficiary needs; Take the lead in project planning, and oversee implementation and budget expenditures to ensure effective use of resources against planned activities and expected outputs; Ensure adequate project monitoring systems and evaluation procedures are in place applying appropriate tools in order to collect and update all progress indicators for the project; Compile and prepare quality monthly and periodic project progress reports, as well as the final report, and feed in other information as required by donors; Collect and promote good practices and lessons learned, contributing to a collection of replicable good practices for gender equality programming: Document the lessons learned from the different interventions and on developing best practices and knowledge management capacity; Build strategic alliances with other key actors internally and externally to advocate for addressing of Sexual and Gender based Violence; Ensure the participation of the different stakeholders, including staff, parents, students, and community leaders and members; Developing awareness raising and staff training programs to raise awareness on Gender and sexual violence; Participate in the development and production of communication materials (leaflets, posters, brochures) to raise awareness on gender equality, Sexual and GBV; Conducting training for school counselors, social workers, community leadership, community cadres supporting program implementation to build their capacity and activate their role in Gender equality , sexual and GBV case management; Act as the focal point for all Gender related issues; Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications and experience

Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender and/or Women’s studies or any other related field; At least three years previous work experience relevant to the function; Excellent inter-personal skills, movement building and networking; Understanding of GBV and gender relations at community level setting; Excellent presentation skills.
